SEO and the Landing Page
SEO – Search Engine Optimization is hot today, with literally billions being spent for keyword rich pages. Top companies will pay tens of thousands of dollars, while smaller companies will try and maybe succeed at doing it themselves. You can do it all by yourself.
Landing Page
After a buyer finds your PPC ad, he/she clicks on the link and is sent to a landing page. This is by far the most important part of the whole SEO and PPC campaign. There is no point in paying Google or another ad company to place your PPC ads if the landing page looks like a relic.
You need both SEO and a strong landing page to make any headway in marketing your site. This is, simply, the best way to use the internet to make a profit. Here’s how:
KISS Keywords:
If you are planning an ambitious ad campaign using both traditional online ads, like banners and PPC ads, the keywords are secondary to the copy. Keep it simple, using them only when possible. Stuffing copy with keywords is a relatively pointless marketing effort. Completely ignoring strong keywords, or not researching them, is another mistake. Use the most basic of keywords when you already know people will start visiting your site. The #1 goal is to keep them reading, to pique their interest, and to either complete the sale or make them come back again and again.
This means you landing page can be as long as you want. So short copy or long copy?
Short Copy, Or Long Copy?
There is an old adage in the business writing field: long copy sells better than short copy. Ever notice how some direct mail letters, meaning letters from companies wanting to sell you the next get rich quick scheme or a book to change your life, tend to go on and on? They do so because typically the more details provided the more comfortable the buyer is with spending money. In the SEO and landing page world, it’s different. Rarely does an online article push 1,200 words, because readers either just skim it or go back to surfing. If you want to sell something, keep it to the basics. If you have to explain it in detail, break it down with some entertainment value. Use eye candy like bold lettering or pictures. The point is to keep the reader entertained, not staring at blocks of text.
And sometimes spreading out a piece across several pages or several separate sections helps too. The best SEO content is about 500 words, with keyword usage at about 2 per 100 words.
Hire Out?
Should you hire out for SEO writers? There are plenty of successful copywriters out there creating landing pages. Maybe you can’t get html down for building creative business websites. There is a chance you can do all this yourself. Either way, it’s best to know the experts from the rookies. By knowing this kind of information, when you have to make decisions, you won’t be shooting in the dark.
Endgame:
Finally, landing pages are the bread and butter of this industry. It truly depends on what product/service you have. But, once you get to know the buyers, once you sell them one item or get their contact information, the opportunity for creative business profit increases two fold.

Do you recommended using a WordPress blog for the landing page?
If so, what’s a good theme to use?
David
Hi David,
WordPress is a great blogging platform, indeed. But when it comes to landing pages or squeeze pages, I prefer using static html pages. They need little or no support and are the perfect choice for lead generation or campaigns. No CMS upgrades needed, never!
When it comes to Landing page template providers, my favorite is Themeforest.net.
Take a look at this templates, all available for purchase on Themeforest:
Quak, Lander 5 in 1 Premium Landing Page, Lista Landing Page, X-Tech Landing Page, Qloud Landing Page, BookPage – Sell your books with Style!, LandingPro Landing Page and AIDA AJAX Paper Landing Page.
For the experienced ones, converting the landing page templates to WordPress Multisite templates can do magic stuff!
Kind regards,
Trond
