The best free SEO tools
If you want to become the best in any domain, you have to master everything that has connection with it. If you want to become good in search engine optimization, then you must know the best free SEO tools available on the Internet. Not only can they help you achieve better results, but they come at no cost at all.
These SEO tools are at the close reach for anybody who needs to: analyze the content of a page, see where a website is located in the search results, find out how many important keywords are covered, see how many external links the page has, and so on… Of course there are many good SEO tools that come at a high price, but in this article I’ll talk about the best SEO tools that are free for anyone to use. I removed even those that are free but you can only use them a limited number of tries, and the ones that go offline frequently.
The number one free SEO tool is Google Trends. By knowing how to get the best out of this tool you can get rich. The trick is knowing everything about it. Use it, test it, try it until you get at least 10 good keywords that have a high amount of traffic, but for which there is no true competition. Compare all of them and start with the one that has the biggest trend. Now, you may ask, “how do I know that a keyword has no competition?” This brings me to my second most important tool, the one that uncovers the competition.
The second free SEO tool is Backlinkwatch, a free tool that scans the back links of a website. This website doesn’t scan only the ones that Google shows with the “link:” command. It scans all the back links. You can use it to check up the competition before creating a new site, or even before creating a new internal page. With this free SEO tool you can check the top ranked websites for a keyword. You can see if they reached the current position only by using on-page optimization and internal linking structure. If you get the message “Your website has not back links to report. — Go on .. and build back links first
” when scanning a top ranked website for a high trend keyword, you have just found a goldmine. The next thing to do is check out the on-page SEO characteristics of that website. See the internal structure, and if the text is not well formatted from a SEO point of view (no h1 tags, no bolds, long title, low keyword density), then in 6 months you’ll outrun that website. Now you may be asking “how do I check the on-page optimization?” First, read everything available on the Internet about on-page SEO and find out the importance of the <title> tag, the <h1> tag, and everything else that can have an influence on the search results. Second, use my 3rd SEO tool.
The third of my “best free SEO tools list” is a plugin for Firefox. It is known in the SEO world as “Search Status”, written by Craig Raw. The version I’m using right now is 1.26. After installing it you’ll get a new icon in the Firefox status bar. Now you are two clicks away from a report that covers all the internal and external link structure. You can highlight the nofollowed links, and even more, you can check the keyword density for any word on this page. The report is complex; it tells you the density of words in the body, if the word is bolded, if it’s mentioned in an h1/h2… thread and so on. You’ll fall in love with this free SEO tool after just a few minutes of testing. It’s the best, a real treasure for any SEO.
Now, if you want to get better results, and you want to find precise information about keywords, I recommend the Google Adwords Keyword tool. This free SEO tool provides much information and it’s good to know that not everything that is displayed is also necessary. The two most important things that you have to pay attention to are the word suggestions (made in the left column), and the “Approx Avg Search Volume”. This is priceless information. I still can’t figure out why they made it free (this tool was made for those who use Adwords, not for us SEO’s). But again, this data makes the tool one of the best free SEO tools. Let’s hope it stays available for free for our sons and daughters too;). So, why is this one of the best? Because it tells us how many times a search has been made for your keyword. And even more, with localization in your country. To do a test, you can place two keywords in Google Trends, and after that place them in the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. In the latter you will see information not on a graph, but with exact numbers. You can examine even the similar words that have under 100 searches/month (not available in Google Trends). This SEO tool is one of the best for the related keywords as well. You will see exactly how people are searching on Google, not on other search engines and private pages. Priceless.
