Comic book blogging is an example of a more specified niche in the entertainment blogging world. They’ve proven to be popular, with literally thousands of fans creating comic book review blogs across the net, as well as millions of readers across the world. First, it’s important to stand out as a comic book blogger, namely with unique articles and reviews combined with original takes on known comic book stories. If you don’t know much about comics, here’s a brief refresher course of why they work so well.

General History:

This isn’t going to state the entire history of the comic book. It’s been popular in some form or another for almost a century. There are a few types of comics, mainly the ones we all know and love—super heroes, like Batman and Superman. Then there are somewhat newer super heroes like X-Men and Spider-Man. Perhaps the most successful hero, as noted in the film world, is Batman. In terms of writers, there are hundreds of talented ones. Going back to the golden ages of comics, those who created major super heroes are still quite popular. For instance, with some help from others Bob Kane created Batman, Stan  Lee created the X-Men and Spider-Man, and most recently, Alan Moore and Frank Miller are known as the two greatest comic writers, with such legendary works such as Moore’s “Watchmen” and “V for Vendetta,” and Miller’s classic “The Dark Knight Returns.” That is only the tip of the iceberg, but with so many sites offering comic history and news, along with books on the art, you have plenty of time to study.

If you only studied the works of Stan Lee, Bob Kane, Alan Moore, and Frank Miller, that’s a good start.

Writing Reviews:

Reviews will provide your main course for comic book blogging. Often you can get review copies from smaller publishers, a minor bonus. You can go at this in several ways: writing mainly major super hero and comic reviews, or going for more independently owned comics. Often, comic blogs do a bit of both, writing on X-Men and Batman while also studying dark independent horror works

Writing Feature Articles:

Yet most of your fun and lots of your blog hits will come from rich content commentary on comics. For instance, if you love a certain hero, and know his/her history, that’s a good start. You could write a feature articles on Batgirl. Another aspect of this is listing, top ten lists like “Top 10 Alan Moore Stories” or “Best Frank Miller Comics to Films.” Speaking of comics to films …

Comics to Films:

One major reason to blog about comics at all, to make this your niche or part of your blogging niche, is because of the recent wave of comics turned films. The “X-Men” trilogy of films, the two Batman ones “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight,” even the sleeper hits of “Hellboy”— these are all powerful topics to write on. You will almost always bring crossover fans of films to your comic blog, meaning the possibility of getting repeat visitors. Repeat visitors increase your ability to make money online.

Make Money Online Blogging on Comics:

Since there are so many comic blogs, it’s tough to make real money. Some ad campaigns allow you to post comic book retailer ads. This will not be a paid post, but a header for your blogging page; it’s best as a minor part of your ad campaign. Another small campaign to run is using Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble to get commissions on comic book sales. Amazon, for instance, offers thousands of comic and manga works. You get only a small percentage, but with enough repeat visitors deciding to buy large amounts of works, you can profit. Some comic bloggers even use their blog to sell old comics or other comic memorabilia.
