Google AdSense Tips – Going Beyond the Basics
For many website owners, the Google AdSense program has been an enormous success, and many successful web entrepreneurs are enjoying incredible earnings month after month through this powerful program. For the vast majority of Google AdSense participants, however, the results are less than stellar. Part of what separates the AdSense stars from all the rest is knowledge, and a willingness to go beyond the basics of the program.
For instance, many Google AdSense participants simply accept the standard, fonts, formats and colors that Google provides, perhaps not knowing that these elements can easily and quickly be changed to suit their needs. Some program participants do not realize that these changes are possible, while many others do not realize just how powerful even a simple change can be.
The formatting of Google AdSense hosted ads is an essential element to success in the program. In order for the ads to have maximum impact for advertisers, and maximum earnings potential for the owner of the hosting website, it is important that they be formatted properly. In most cases this means formatting the ads in such a way that they blend in to the surrounding website. It is important for the ads to appear as if they are an integral part of the website itself.
This is because the vast majority of website visitors have been trained to tune out ads that appear too obvious or too obtrusive. A classic example is the ever present pop-up ad. In the majority of cases website visitors quickly close those ads that make it through the pop-up blocker, often without even noticing what the ad was for. Banner ads have much the same effect, and many long time internet users have learned simply to tune them out.
Formatting the ads served by Google AdSense properly can eliminate this problem and allow visitors to your website to thoroughly investigate what your advertisers have to offer. By making these text based ads an integral part of the surrounding text, visitors are free to discover the ads on their own, and they are much less likely to simply ignore the message they see.
The placement of the ads is an important consideration as well. Many new program participants automatically assume that these ads should be placed at the top of the page, but in most cases that would be a mistake. That is because website visitors are used to seeing ads positioned at the tops of websites, and they may already be programmed to ignore such obvious ads. Placing the ads at the bottom is problematic as well, since many visitors will not scroll to the bottom of the page.
In most cases the best placement for AdSense ads will be within the text itself. For instance, if your antique car website contains a tutorial on the best way to restore a Model T, you may want to place your Google AdSense ads between paragraphs of the article itself. This placement will allow highly targeted ads to be served to a willing audience.
For instance, those antique car buffs in the middle of such a Model T restoration project may well be interested in the products and services of old car parts catalogs, car show promoters and other advertisers who would be most likely to have ads hosted on such a site. This is, of course, a win-win situation for both the advertiser and the owner of the hosting website. The advertiser gains a potential sale, and a potential lifelong customer, while the owner of the website benefits from AdSense revenue and increased traffic. It is easy to see why the Google AdSense program continues to be such a favorite with advertisers and web based entrepreneurs alike.

From my personal point of view I think placing the Google Adsense Ads in the upper left corner before the text just below the title gives the best results. Working with this in combination with SEO will both imrove the presentation of relevant ads and also a better click through rate. The Adsense text ads works best for me in this position.
