Faith is a tough subject to break down for readers, because often each of us has a different understanding on things like God. It can also be somewhat dangerous, as you fall into your own preacher/priest mentality of evangelizing. Many priests, preachers, and ministers are moving into the big faith movement online. With so much competition, how does the regular faith blogger compete? One key is ultra-specificity. (more…)

Rich Niche 6: Personal Experience Blogging

Rich Niche 6: Personal Experience Blogging

Posted on 03. Dec, 2008 by Trond.

Surely personal experience blogging is easy … right? Actually, sometimes the stories we have within ourselves take even more talent than the features we research. It’s closer to you, and often the perfectionist blogger comes out. In short, personal experience blogging is about tailoring your views into something positive or negative … engaging the reader with a true life story … and then attempting to get them to return for your next. This guide will show you how to do just that.

Subject Finder:

There are only about a few million stories you can tell. Some of them will interest your blog readers, some will be boring. The true problem is there are no two blog readers exactly alike, so one post may appeal to one while not the other. On the other side, this can be good, because just about any topic will reach someone. One reader hates depression stories or stories of romance … the other is a soap opera fanatic and likes reading about how others defeated depression. So, this means few choices are entirely wrong, just that some are more profitable than others.

War Stories:

“War Stories” of course don’t mean your days in Vietnam or Iraq, but if you do have those stories, a few million of us are interested. War stories simply mean battling major problems, going through a life full of success and failure. You once were homeless … you once battled drug and/or alcohol addiction … you have a major illness. These are all stories which are far from boring. If anything, they’re like creative gold. To write them, you still need a basic storytelling sense. Read up on major magazines that offer such true to life stories of fighting, winning, and losing. Some are faith driven like “Guideposts” while others offer artistic experience like “The Sun.”

Profit Stories:

Another popular field to write in is the “profit story” where you talk like a good old get rich quick scheme … except you’re not asking readers to send you a dime. You are saying, more or less, this is how it worked for me. Wealth is the biggest example, but if you gained anything by making the right choice, from a handsome husband to a newborn son, these qualify. People like to hear about it, people like to read about it.

Jokes:

Sometimes personal experience blog posts come down to telling a joke. You don’t take the world too seriously, you make fun of yourself, and you do it often or occasionally. These posts often form a smaller amount of your regular posting; it’s tough to tell jokes for a living. Yet they can make the reader see a different side of you.

Why write them all?

Why write all these war stores, soap operas, profit stories, and hilarious experiences? You can write on just about any topic you want—that’s the biggest. You will rarely run out of ideas, because all your years and memories continue to grow each day you live. In the end, it’s about having some fun while sharing your world view with readers, hoping your words will affect them, and hoping to they’ll become repeat visitors.

Make Money Online:

Typically, personal experience bloggers don’t entirely focus on themselves constantly, burning out writing dozens of personal posts. However, with such a variety of topics, from depression to faith to even books and collecting, this falls into focusing on select topics. If you focused on depression, offering not only personal experience but also research, you could post Health related ads on your site, or offer to advertise directly to the health providers. Some even become authors, or are already authors, and build an income advertising their books while blogging. The possibilities here, whether it’s passive income ad campaigns or unique paid posting offers, are endless.

Rich Niche 5: Focused Art Blogs: From Theater to Portraits

Rich Niche 5: Focused Art Blogs: From Theater to Portraits

Posted on 24. Nov, 2008 by Trond.

Art blogs may seem big in scope; much like entertainment blogging they need a defined niche. This guide offers several possibilities for art blogging success, from theater and acting to the history of painters.

Theater:

Theater moves. Theater is local. It’s only been with us since the ancient Greeks first proposed acting, so let’s say a few millennia. Theater also is international, sometimes with one play reaching as many or more people than any film ever does. To write commentary on theater is simply about offering a critical opinion. If you’re new to theater, and think it may be a boring subject, consider some of the best films were based on plays, or the best plays were based on great novels.
You can take theater in  a variety of ways, including short news snippets posted on your blog. You can go incredibly focused and review and comment on only local theater acts. The possibilities are endless, and it can actually be quite profitable.

Static Art:

Static art is an all encompassing term used for images that don’t move. Theater and films move, but paintings only move the heart and leave a mark on the mind. It’s a rather general subject, but one with many niches for writing blog posts. This includes using images no longer copyrighted and publishing on your blog, or even paying for the rights to do so with newer works. Mostly you’ll be writing commentary.

Simple, Engaging Commentary:

As always, reviews and news are just the tip of the iceberg. The niches are endless for art blogging success, and it comes down to utilizing every piece of knowledge you get. Once you get experience in the field, it will be much easier to write feature articles and opinion pieces, and more profitable.

Make Money Online Art Blogging:

Art blogging is quite a big piece of the pie, so go for the smaller slices. If you focus on local theater, paintings, and other art, you are immediately choosing a clear, profitable niche. If your blog becomes a success, all the major theaters will want to advertise on your blog and work with you, as will many other artists. Or you can go for more ad revenue via major sites like Google or affiliate programs. The more specific you go, the higher the end revenue will be. After all, Adsense and other affiliates are based on select keywords.

Rich Niche 4: Book Review Blogging

Posted on 24. Nov, 2008 by Trond.

Book reviews are quite popular online, but with so many writers penning them it’s easy to get lost in the print and  online publication shuffle. One perfect way to publish book reviews which sometimes pays well is via a book review blog. It’s usually smart to do more than book reviews on your blog if you truly want to make an income, but many successful bloggers ignore that rule and make money online doing it anyways! This guide offers a few crucial steps.

Choosing Popular Genres:

Since the online world is full of all kinds of people, it’s important to choose your ideal reader. Is it the college student who loves horror novels by the likes of Stephen King and Clive Barker? Is it the gamer who only reads action material? Is it the poet who liked reading how-tos and literary novels?
Of course, all readers expand into other fields. If you really want to narrow down your niche, picking a genre can help. Readers will come to you, if you succeed, for the latest and the greatest in that genre. If you keep reading in a select genre it can get old, but also profitable in another creative blogging way.

Feature Articles:

We’ve focused all on reading fiction so far … so let this second step open up the other half of the reading field. But let’s narrow it down even more. You read books by a certain author, and books like biographies which focus on him or her. For instance, Ernest Hemingway is perhaps the greatest novelist of the 20th century,  with countless classics; he also led an interesting life, which dozens of literary biographies explore. Feature articles can come out of reading such material. Sometimes you may even consider trying to publish them in print.

Gaining Stature:

One popular way to get more hits on your book review blog is with backlinks. Yes, you have lots of competition in this market. However, book reviewers tend to get along—one writes for the other, and so on. Publishing feature articles in print, for example, almost guarantees more hits for your blog. This isn’t to say it will be easy, because publishing book reviews is tough. Yet even if it’s a non paying market—that’s easier—you can write a short bio of yourself and include your book review blog. You will almost always get more hits.

Make Money Online Writing Book Reviews:

The more hits you get from backlinks, the more you will see the world still enjoys good books! This is a field easy to begin in, but tough to create true profit from. As is the case with film blogs or any general entertainment blog, your main income will come from several different streams. As a book review blogger, it’s almost mandatory you sign up with a affiliate book seller to get some profit. In the beginning, selling through companies like Abe Books, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble may not turn a profit. Over time, if you keep posting, it will. Ad campaigns for new books occur often, and Google Adsense is one perfect way to utilize this potential market. For most book review blogs, it’s all passive income and free books, unless you go the route of paid posting.

Rich Niche 2 – Film Blogging

Rich Niche 2 – Film Blogging

Posted on 16. Nov, 2008 by Trond.

This article offers a clear focus on film blogging, from setting it up to bringing in more hits. Truly, film blogging is a hot commodity online today, mainly because so many of us love to watch a good film. It’s the modern storytelling form, even more so today than the novel.

This guide not only offers clear topics, but some useful ways to make money blogging with an online career opportunity.

Choose a Genre, Choose Again:

Choosing a genre may seem simple to you. “I love horror!” Or “Anything with Johnny Depp!” First, remember there are likely film blogs on just about every topic you can imagine; it’s been done so you need to offer something new. That means experience in good and bad films,  a unique way of grading a film, and the willingness to blog continuously on the same topic. Sometimes, for the more experienced blogger, it’s important to focus on a very specific niche. And actually, Horror Blogging or blogging on Johnny Depp are good examples.

The problem is the online world is full of them.

Unique Topics:

There are almost no topics left for film blogs. So choose one that you are willing to write on continuously, and one which will give you enough material to actually write on. Johnny Depp has only been in so many films, so if you plan to make money blogging, check that one.

On the other side, while there are hundreds of horror blogs, there are thousands of horror movies coming in from across the world, and  a wide fan base. That’s a good pick. So are most genres, from science fiction films to the  more thriller type films like “Rambo” or “Jurassic Park.”

Sidelines:

You still need more topics, because many of these films will be years old and have no interest. That’s why you may also consider using TV shows and even online shows which fall into your category of favorite films. Say you enjoy French films, and you start running out of the ones you’ve seen. France has television, France has TV shows. It’s just to create more possibilities for content creation.

Make Money Blogging:

As with all entertainment blogging aspects, film blogging is a huge market, especially if you focus the niche on a specific topic. Horror blogging would of course get a  host of movies, many of which need small fan based advertising—that’s you.  You can also sign up to be an affiliate with major sites selling movies, like Amazon and Barnes & Noble; this won’t make you rich, but you will often get steady streams of sales. If you establish yourself as a film critic, there is the opportunity to write feature articles on major sites.

Rich Niche 1 – General Entertainment Blogging

Rich Niche 1 – General Entertainment Blogging

Posted on 16. Nov, 2008 by Trond.

General entertainment may be the most productive way for any site informing rather than selling. Some sites, on the other hand, do both selling and providing informative articles, including sites which sell products and ads like Amazon. Two preeminent examples of sites focusing on the entertainment niche are Salon.com and IGN.com, both highly successful websites. With blogging, the rules are somewhat different. This short guide explains the basics of making money online with an entertainment blog.

Blogging On What?

Usually you want to blog on the topics that excite you, because more often than not that will be your best writing. On the other hand, creating posts designed for high profit also works. Say you hate action TV shows, but actions shows are the rave. What do you do? It’s still up to you, but in the end you can honestly do this for pay and do this for fun. If it’s like pulling teeth, maybe you should ask someone else to do it (a guest blogger).

TV Show Reviewing:

Since TV shows were mentioned, let’s go over blogging on them. This can mean writing blog posts on new characters in the shows, upcoming seasons being released on DVDs, certain genres of TV shows like action or horror, or even a new writer’s strike. TV show reviewing is often the most lucrative field for entertainment blogging; few hate TV, many are hooked on it.

Other Reviewing:

Of course, entertainment sites like Salon and IGN also focus on books, anime, comics, and movies. Reviews take a special kind of skill to write, however, and doing them solely on your entertainment blog is a risk. Write on multiple subjects, and see what catches reader’s interests.

Commentary:

Commentating on the latest stories in Hollywood is also quite lucrative. This isn’t so much news, but offering what a newspaper opinion column does. News means “Just the Facts” while commentary lets you go into more personal experience with series. Say you’re in love with science fiction shows; “Battlestar Galactica” and “Star Trek” are addictions to you. You can tap this vein of interest to find similar fans across the world. You can write opinion pieces like “10 Reasons Science Fiction Shows are Hot!” or “Why the Sci-Fi Channel is Working Miracles!”

Hot News:

One major aspect of all entertainment blogging is staying informed on not only what happened yesterday but what happened today. New TV series, new bestselling books from names like Stephen King or Dean Koontz, an action star like Will Smith or Bruce Willis signing up for the latest action film trilogy … these are all strong topics. You can find much of this out by simply opening up the entertainment section of a major newspaper, while also using the net for what it’s meant for.

Make Money Blogging—How?

So how do you make money blogging with entertainment blogging? Often the most lucrative way to make money is simple ad sales; there are thousands of potential markets, from selling ad space for new movies to taking small commissions from items you’ve reviewed.
